Phentermine Indications

Last updated on November 30th, 2017 at 08:32 am

Anorectic Phentermine is indicated for use in patients with alimentary obesity who cannot control their appetite. Increased appetite, a feeling of constant hunger lead to overeating and, as a result, weight gain.

Phentermine is used as a short-term adjunct to a diet and physical exercises in a comprehensive program of obesity or overweight treatment.

The recognized international criterion for assessing overweight and obesity is body mass index (BMI).

Treatment with Phentermine can be initiated in overweight patients with the following BMI:

  • 25 to 29.9 kg / m2 – in case of factors that increase risk of morbidity: diabetes mellitus, high blood pressure, or hyperlipidemia;
  • from 29.9 kg / m2 and above – with or without health problems associated with overweight and obesity.

Phentermine is prescribed for adults and adolescents aged 16 and older. In some cases, after assessing benefits and risks, Phentermine can be used to treat overweight in adolescents aged 12 and older, as well as in geriatric patients.
